Kunstmuseum Den Haag has a treasure chamber of over 160.000 pieces of art. Here we work on making the highlights from this collection available online.
In 2026, Kunstmuseum Den Haag will celebrate 75 years of its fashion collection. Time for Fashion Galore: a true abundance of fashion. What began as the Dutch Costume Museum has grown into the largest fashion and costume collection in the Netherlands, with over 50.000 costumes and accessories. From 17th-century showpieces to the latest creations straight off the catwalk, the collection continues to evolve and offers inspiration, knowledge, and expertise.
Fashion belongs to all of us, and every garment tells a story. Yet the perspective on museum pieces and the stories we tell about them continues to shift. Interestingly, objects once considered damaged or “worthless” may now, thanks to new narratives, perspectives, or careful restoration, be seen as masterpieces. This exhibition not only shines a spotlight on the collection but also offers a fresh look at its highlights and the work that happens behind the scenes. Visitors can peek into the open depot on the gallery floor or, like a true dress detective, witness a restoration up close.
Fashion Galore looks both back and forward. Co-creations, never-before-seen pieces, and new additions to the collection promise many surprises. A feast for the eyes, and above all, a celebration of fashion and unique stories, featuring designs by Coco Chanel, Fong-Leng, Alexander McQueen, Jan Taminiau, Vivienne Westwood, Hanifa, Kenneth Ize, and many more.
