Kunstmuseum Den Haag has a treasure chamber of over 160.000 pieces of art. Here we work on making the highlights from this collection available online.
We have been asked how we view the controversy surrounding the fashion house Balenciaga, given the subject of our current fashion exhibition.
Our exhibition is about the work in black of couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972). It features designs dating from the 1930s to the 1960s by the couturier himself.
There is therefore a clear distinction between the legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga on display at Kunstmuseum Den Haag and the work of today’s Balenciaga fashion house, which is currently the subject of controversy. The exhibition does not include any contemporary designs. To make this clear, the title will be changed to Couture in black: designs by Cristóbal Balenciaga.
