Kunstmuseum Den Haag has a treasure chamber of over 160.000 pieces of art. Here we work on making the highlights from this collection available online.
Erik Andriesse died ten years ago at the age of only 36. An ambitious young artist, he made a deep impression on many who knew him during his brief career. This spring, a survey of his oeuvre is to be published as part of a series of monographs on Dutch artists. Museum de Pont in Tilburg and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag are marking the occasion with presentations of his drawings and paintings.
The work of Erik Andriesse was inspired chiefly by nature. Flowers and animals were his main subjects, Picasso, Dürer and Verster some of his favourite artists. He found inspiration in their work, but also sought to measure himself against them. Erik Andriesse was an artist "with a Van Gogh-like enthusiasm for his work", whose exuberant paintings still appeal to the imagination. They are on show in the projects gallery of the Gemeentemuseum.
