Future Fashion

Fashion is one of the industries with the largest footprint, its relentless pace generating mountains of waste. Everyone agrees things need to change – but how? In Future Fashion, Kunstmuseum Den Haag offers a fresh perspective on fashion, and the creative, artistic ways designers are engaging with pressing issues such as overconsumption, pollution and climate change.

A new generation of designers is thinking in solutions, bringing a different perspective to beauty as well as to materials, process and production – breathing fresh life into the creative field. What if, for instance, you used earth itself as a dye, or as a literal raw material? How can nature become a co-creator?

Fashion curators Madelief Hohé (Kunstmuseum Den Haag) and Karen Van Godtsenhoven (Barbican, London) work with a broad selection of designers to explore how creative fashion can be used to convey urgency – drawing inspiration for new imagery and techniques that repair the world or are regenerative by design.

Future Fashion is on display at Kunstmuseum Den Haag from 30 January.
