Kunstmuseum Den Haag has a treasure chamber of over 160.000 pieces of art. Here we work on making the highlights from this collection available online.
Work by American artist Gary Lang (b. Los Angeles, 1950) has been seen earlier at the Gemeentemuseum. He had a show in the museum’s Projects Gallery in 1996 and, more recently, several of his paintings were included in the 2002 ‘Minimal’ exhibition. In this new exhibition, Gary Lang will once again show paintings based on the American “all-over” principle of a flat, apparently unbounded canvas. Lang uses a grid and clear, intense colours applied in lines parallel to the sides of the canvas. The influence of Piet Mondrian is evident in his work. Because the lines are hand-painted, slight irregularities can be detected despite the overall appearance of clinical exactitude.
