Kunstmuseum Den Haag has a treasure chamber of over 160.000 pieces of art. Here we work on making the highlights from this collection available online.
Presentation revolving around a painting entitled Day by Swiss Symbolist artist Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918).
The painting symbolises birth, growth, light and joy and shows a young female nude sitting on a cloth in a rolling grassy landscape, with her hands held before her breast in an attitude akin to prayer (a reference to eurythmics). The display will comprise both the final oil painting, executed in 1899, and the studies which Hodler made for it over the preceding ten years. All are from the Gemeentemuseum’s own collection.
