Royal Awards

Persbeeld tentoonstelling Koninklijke Prijs voor Vrije schilderkunst

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands presented the Royal Awards for Painting at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag on 19 October 2007. Pascal van der Graaf (Groningen), Simon Hemmer (Amsterdam), Malin Persson (Amsterdam) and Marjolijn de Wit (Breda) each received a prize of € 6000. The exhibition with works of the winners and other nominees will be open to the public in the Gemeentemuseum The Hague until 6 January 2008.

The Royal Awards are intended to encourage talented young painters. They were first introduced by King William III in 1871 and have been maintained by all four reigning monarchs since then. The award ceremony and exhibition are held under the auspices of the Amsterdam Royal palace Foundation (Stichting Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam).
