Job Vacancy: Paintings Conservator

(24 hours)

As a conservator, you will be part of the Collections department, which is responsible for the formation, management, and preservation of the collection, as well as for the registration, documentation, and (scientific) accessibility of the collection through presentations, exhibitions, and publications.

In this role, you will be a specialist in paintings conservation. You will work both independently and as part of a team, and you will be a member of a team of conservators with various specializations. In addition to this position, there is another paintings conservator, a works on paper conservator, a fashion conservator, and a flexible group of freelance conservators focusing on the sub-collections of applied arts, sculpture, and frames.

We are looking for a professional who will be responsible for the optimal maintenance, conservation, and restoration of the paintings collection. Your tasks will include advising on the material conservation of the paintings collection, preparing condition reports for outgoing loans, and performing restorations and conservation treatments for outgoing loans and internal exhibitions. You will also be responsible for supervising interns, coördinate work for freelance conservators, as well as supporting art technological research.

What we expect from a conservator:

  • You have an academic level of thinking and working and have completed a relevant conservation education.
  • You are quality-oriented, proactive, and have strong communication skills.
  • You have several years of experience as a paintings conservator and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are stress-resistant, flexible, and capable of setting priorities.
