This fall with the exhibition Royals & Rebels – British Fashion, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag delves into the rich history of British fashion, whilst paying a special tribute to Vivienne Westwood. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the world of British fashion. Westwood’s designs are featured amid creations by many other great names in British fashion: young talent, historical fashion, distinguished tailoring and much more. A highlight will be the Westwood wedding dress that Carrie Bradshaw wore in the Sex and the City film (2008) and again in the recent sequel series And Just Like That… (2023).

In addition to Westwood’s designs, the exhibition features dozens of other British designers, including Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Charles Frederick Worth, Liberty’s, Lucile, Edward Molyneux, Mary Quant, Katharine Hamnett, Paul Smith, John Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Richard Quinn, Gareth Pugh, Simone Rocha and young talents such as Bora Aksu, Robert Wun, Charles Jeffrey Loverboy en Matty Bovan.

The exhibition Royals & Rebels – British Fashion responds to the current fascination with everything British and seizes this opportunity to also pay homage to Westwood. Her creations and thos of other contemporary British designers connect the past with the present and create a fascination dialogue with the Kunstmuseum’s collection that spans from the 18th century to the present day.

This exhibition has been made possible with the support of Nationale-Nederlanden.
