About this event

Designer, artist, and author D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem invites you on a deep dive into the watery worlds of Afrofuturity—a creative exploration of the past, present, and possible futures.

Connecting her Camo Coat Collection garments featured in the exhibition with her catalog essay, Duyst-Akpem traces African Diasporic and Indigenous aquatic mythologies that flow into Titanic: The Last Dance, touching on themes of water, sound, migration, and visibility.

In this multimedia online presentation, Duyst-Akpem is joined by Madelief Hohe, Curator of Fashion at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, for an inspiring conversation and live audience Q&A.

D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem is a designer, artist, and author whose work explores Afrofuturity through art, design, and performance. She investigates themes of water, sound, identity, and representation, drawing connections between African Diasporic and Indigenous mythologies. Duyst-Akpem’s practice bridges research and creative expression, inviting audiences to engage with histories of movement, transformation, and possibility.
