Why is there a surcharge on the entrance fee?

The Kunstmuseum presents a wide range of exhibitions and brings international masterpieces to The Hague. By combining different collections, we offer visitors a unique opportunity to admire exceptional artworks up close. To make this diverse and high-quality program possible, organizing these exhibitions can sometimes be extra costly. That’s why we charge a one-time surcharge on the entrance fee.

Good to know: You only pay this surcharge once. During your visit, you will receive a sticker, which allows you to return without paying the surcharge again. Or show your previous ticket with the surcharge at the desk—so be sure to keep it after your visit.

Does the surcharge apply to everyone?

Yes, in principle, it does. From February 15 to June 9, we charge a €5.00 surcharge per ticket, which applies to the entire museum. By implementing this surcharge, we can offer a full and inspiring program.

To remain accessible, we have made some exceptions. Students and CJP cardholders pay half of the surcharge (€2.50). There is no surcharge for visitors up to 18 years old, Museum Friends, and holders of certain other specific cards. Visitors with an Ooievaarspas are also exempt from the surcharge.

Adults and Museum Card holders pay a €5.00 surcharge. You can find the complete overview here.

Companions of visitors with disabilities do not have to pay the surcharge.
And to reiterate, visitors only need to pay the surcharge once, return visitors will also be exempt .
